Sump & Ejector Pumps
What does an ejector pump do, and how is it different from a sump pump?
An ejector pump moves wastewater and sewage from below-grade fixtures — like a basement bathroom, laundry, or utility sink — up to the main sewer line, whereas a sump pump only removes clean groundwater to keep the basement dry. They solve different problems and aren't interchangeable.
Because an ejector pump handles waste, it needs a properly sealed basin lid and venting to control odor and stay to code — items included in our 50% OFF same-day add-ons coupon when installed at the time of a pump replacement. Wiz Plumbing also runs $100 OFF any new ejector pump on a new unit.
If a basement bathroom or laundry is backing up or smelling, the ejector pump and its basin are the first things to check, since a stuck float or failed pump shows up there first.
